Philadelphia Inquirer Publisher Brian Tierney has announced that Editor in Chief Amanda Bennett is out and will be replaced by former Inky/Baltimore Sun/current NPR honcho Bill Marimow.
No word yet on whether the layoff notices start going out today, or whether Choochy Face, er, Tierney, will put the lie to any of the rumors festering out there about the number of Inquirer folks who will get pink slips in their Christmas stockings.
Journalistically, bringing Marimow back is a good move, and one that will quell the fears of some of the long-timers who will be left standing after the coming purge. But Marimow's a heavy hitter -- tell me how this is good for the budget, please?
Citizen Mom readers may have noticed I haven't spent a lot of ink on the Inky happenings around here. For any of you who don't know, my husband is management, not a member of the union and thus, completely in limbo when it comes to the whole layoffs thing. So the less I say, the better for all concerned.
Besides, over at Phawker, Valania's been squeezing juice out of his own sources -- and dude's got plenty. In fact, the story you all saw in the national media early this week, the one about a possible 150 layoffs at the Inquirer, was one Phawker had last week.
So, if you'd be so kind, say a prayer to the deity of your choice that JQ has a job this time next week, and keep checking Phawker.com for updates.

of course we wish your husband well, but more importantly we must recognize that Stephen A. Smith must be retained. HOW ELSE CAN A MAN MAINTAIN HIS CHEEZ DOODLE SUPPLY!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for JQ's job too. In the meantime, where's your post-election post? I've been waiting all day!
